The Graduate Education program at Saint Leo University offers the Specialist in Education degree with a concentration in Educational Leadership. This degree is for individuals holding a master’s degree in education or a related field of study (e.g., guidance and counseling, social work, human services, etc.) and is designed for those who already hold Educational Leadership certification, but who seek to advance their career, knowledge base and enhance their professional practice.
Two tracks are offered. Track A is for those holding a master’s degree and who are seeking Educational Leadership certification. Track B is for those who already hold Educational Leadership certification, but who seek to advance their career, knowledge base and enhance their professional practice. Track A is 45 hours, beyond the masters; Track B is 39 hours beyond the masters.
The program is slated to begin Spring 2009 with a 25 student cohort group. Because the Specialist in Education is recognized as a companion degree to the Doctor of Education, the long-term goal is for the Ed.S. to become an ongoing program of study within the department of graduate education that will ultimately lead to the implementation of a Doctor of Education.
Courses within the Education Specialist degree program have been identified to ensure that students complete a program of study that meets the expectations for educational leadership established by the State of Florida and Saint Leo University. All courses infuse the Saint Leo University core values, thus helping students grow in body, mind and spirit.
