Jeffra Flaitz joined the Saint Leo University faculty in fall 2011 after serving as an ESOL Resource Teacher in Pasco County. Prior to her work for the school district, Dr. Flaitz had taught for 16 years in the Department of World Languages at the University of South Florida. During her tenure at USF, Dr. Flaitz also headed the English Language Institute and co-directed the Ph.D. program in Second Language Acquisition and Instructional Technology.

Dr. Flaitz studied Russian at Leningrad State University during the summer of 1976, and worked in Moscow as a nanny for a U.S. embassy family in 1978-1979. In 1983-1984 she served as Resident Director of the English Language Center in Beijing, People's Republic of China. She taught summer courses in English in Paris throughout the 1980s, and offered in-service teacher workshops with USIA colleagues in Poland and the Czech Republic in 1992. In 1994 Dr. Flaitz was invited to present workshops at the Salzburg Seminar, an annual gathering of teacher educators and government administrators. She received a Fulbright Senior Scholar award in 2000 to teach and conduct research in Medellin, Colombia.
