Dr. Stan McGahey is an Associate Professor and the Director of the International Hospitality & Tourism Management program in the School of Business at Saint Leo University.
He holds a Masters in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University and a Doctorate in International Tourism from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea.
Prior to joining Saint Leo, Dr. McGahey was a Fulbright American Senior Scholar with a teaching and research award in International Tourism at the University Saint Kliment Ohridski in Ohrid, Macedonia.
He has served as a tourism consultant in destinations such as China, Indonesia, Korea, Iraq, Australia, Guam, and Macedonia for U.N. and government agencies, as well as tourism businesses and associations.
In addition to teaching and consulting, he has more than twenty years experience in international tourism management, tour operations, destination promotion, and journalism.
His professional and research interests include tourism policy, planning, development, and promotion in Lesser Developed Countries, with a particular emphasis on the sustainable utilization of natural and cultural resources to generate positive economic, socio-cultural, and environmental benefits for the local community.
Dr. McGahey is the author of several books and chapters on topics ranging from European festivals and the Korean tourim industry to business case studies and tour guide training. He has written numerous articles for tourism trade and academic publications and has created and co-hosted radio programs on tourism in Guam and Macedonia.
He is a member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization's Panel of Tourism Experts and is a regular contributor to the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.
