How do students qualify for Academic Honors?

Each year Academic honors are awarded upon graduation to students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, measured by their cumulative grade point averages. The three levels of honors are:

Cum Laude for those with a grade point average of at least 3.65 earned on all work attempted at the University.

Magna Cum Laude for those with a grade point average of at least 3.85 and above earned on all work attempted at the University.

Summa Cum Laude for those with a grade point average of at least 3.95 and above earned on all work attempted at the University.

While honors designations in the commencement program are based on the cumulative grade point average earned at the end of the fall semester, final honor calculations recorded on your transcript and diploma are based on all graded Saint Leo University courses taken to fulfill Bachelor's degree requirements. Honors are not awarded for graduate degrees.

Can announcements be purchased?

Announcements are available on the Herff Jones website. Go to
Herff Jones and choose Saint Leo University Main Campus

Are tickets required for commencement?

Tickets are required to enter the Bowman Activity Center. Seating will be on a first-come, first serve basis. Most seating will be bleacher style. Children two and older must have their own seat and therefore must have a ticket. Baby carriages and strollers are not permitted in gym.

When do Graduates receive their diploma?

At the commencement ceremony each graduate will receive a diploma cover from Dr Kirk. The diploma along with a final transcript is mailed to the student's permanent home address. This will occur once all degree requirements have been met and all financial obligations to Saint Leo University have been satisfied. Most diplomas are mailed by the Registrar's Office within one month of coursework completion.

When is the Baccalaureate Mass?

The Baccalaureate Mass for all the students and their families will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. in the Bowman Activity Center. All are encouraged to attend.

May we take photographs during commencement?

The University has arranged for Bob Knight Photo to photograph each student as they receive their degree. Each graduate will receive a proof of the photograph some time after commencement and may purchase additional photographs. For more information, contact Bob Knight Photo at (800) 261-2576. Please do not enter the floor area to take personal pictures. Following the ceremony families are welcome to use the stage and surrounding areas as a backdrop for photos.
