The School of Education and Social Services offers majors and programs that are solidly grounded in a liberal arts tradition, Saint Leo
Core Values, and designed to prepare students for careers of service. We prepare students for professional level positions in the education, social work, criminal justice and human service communities.
It is our stated objective to graduate students who are committed to building strong, responsive and caring communities. We are dedicated to teaching students to develop an appreciation of complexity and diversity in society and to be concerned about human dignity. Above all, we want our students to understand social and individual problems and to graduate with a determination to resolve those problems.
In our
Criminal Justice programs, students can concentrate in a variety of specializations such as administration and homeland security to meet individual career needs. Our
education programs lead to certification for teaching at the elementary and middle grades levels and may include ESOL and Reading Endorsements. Our highly successful
graduate program in Educational Leadership leads students into administrative positions. Our
social work program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education to award the bachelor of social work (B.S.W.) degree. And, our
human service major emphasizes problem-solving and critical thinking skills and is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers in the human services field.
The faculty embrace and are committed to the ideals of quality teaching and community service and are active in their respective professional fields as researchers and practitioners. This offers students the added advantage of learning both abstract theory and concrete application from the faculty's own experiences.
Join us and share in our vision of working to improve the quality of life for your community and our society.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carol G. Walker, Dean
