Purpose:
The purpose of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is to develop and nurture relationships between parents and the University through special events, volunteer opportunities, and philanthropic support, including the Annual Fund. The Office of Parent Relations works with the Parent Advisory Council to create a positive and meaningful experience for the parents of Saint Leo University students. A main function of the Parent Advisory Council is to provide feedback that enhances communication between the University and parents. The Council does not function as a policy making group.
Responsibilities:
The Saint Leo University Parent Advisory Council is composed of parents of current Saint Leo University students. Membership is open to any parent of a university campus traditional student.
Parent Advisory Council Members are asked to:
- Attend Parent Advisory Council meetings that take place twice each year (once each semester). These meetings will include interaction with senior members of the Saint Leo administration.
- Serve a two year renewable term.
- Make a contribution to the Annual Fund and / or other priorities of the University.
- Participate in regional events in your area.
- Give support to the University in four areas of activity: (1) Admissions, (2) Career Development, (3) University Advancement, (4) Parent Outreach.
- Provide a source of insight from the university parent perspective, and a parent body of support for the University.
Activities:
The Parents’ Council will be involved in the development and implementation of activities that have an impact on the University at all levels. Saint Leo University Parents’ Council members are primarily engaged in activities to support the University’s Mission in each of the following areas:
- Admissions: Assist admissions office with college fairs. Welcome new parents to Saint Leo by making welcome calls, emails, and chatroom sessions. Refer family and friends to check out Saint Leo. Host or participate in regional “send offs”.
- Career Development: Assist career services department with finding internships, job shadowing, and job opportunities for Saint Leo students. Activities may also include sharing career advice and professional expertise with current students and recent graduates.
- University Advancement: Encourage parental support of the Annual Fund and other financial projects. Activities may include hosting parent donor receptions, writing appeal letters, placing phone calls or sending notes to thank parents for their contributions.
- Parent Outreach: Work with the Director of Parent Relations to develop, plan, and implement programs, events, and volunteer activities that build a relationship between the University and parents. Activities may include assisting with Parent Orientation and Family Weekend, and coordination of regional events.
