1. Who needs to take SLU Strategies Course?
All new students must successfully complete and pass Introduction to University Life during their first eight-week term at Saint Leo. This includes Jacksonville University, Earmyu and temporary students (students sitting for the CPA exam or seeking a degree from another institution). This course introduces and orients students to online academic life, preparing them to be active, independent learners and thinkers. Introduction to University Life facilitates both math and English placement exams. University policies and procedures are also reviewed. Foundational Courses are designed to provide students with the basic academic and personal skills needed to complete a college education. These courses provide a practical orientation to collegiate life, and they prepare students for the challenges and opportunities associated with completing a four-year college education. Additionally, these courses provide basic instruction in such areas as learning, writing, reading, critical thinking and mathematics.

2. What is the course description for SLU Strategies Course?
SLU Strategies Course is a non-credit course with no charge for tuition. SLU Strategies Course is part of the mandatory curriculum set forth by Saint Leo University. This course is instructor lead and students will have the same access and expectations for this course as any other course within the SLU curriculum. SLU Strategies Course is required of all new students. This course introduces and orients students to online academic life, preparing them to be active, independent learners and thinkers. SLU Strategies Course facilitates both Math and English Placement Exams, required of all new Center for Online Learning students. University policies and procedures are also reviewed.

3. How are students evaluated in the SLU Strategies Course?
SLU Strategies Course is graded on a pass/fail basis. Students will need to pass the course to continue taking classes. Please note: Placement Test scores are not included in the SLU Strategies Course grade. Students who do not pass SLU Strategies Course will only be allowed to register for SLU Strategies Course during their next term at Saint Leo University. Students, who fail SLU Strategies Course a second time, may NOT register for additional courses at the University. Any student who fails SLU Strategies Course is only permitted to withdraw from the course one time after receiving the initial “F.” Any student who withdraws from SLU Strategies Course two times after failing will no longer be eligible to attend classes at Saint Leo University. Students who are required to re-take SLU Strategies Course may NOT re-take placement exams. Students who decide to drop/withdraw from SLU Strategies Course will be dropped/withdrawn from all other courses and must enroll in SLU Strategies Course their next term.

4. Is attendance required?
Students are expected to view the online lectures and read all assignments in the week they are offered. Students may work ahead if they so choose, but they may NOT fall behind. Students must log onto the site often enough to remain abreast of the communication in the Class News, Message Board and/or email. It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of everything happening in the class online. Please remember, if a student withdraws from SLU Strategies Course they must withdraw from all other courses. Students who withdraw from other courses may complete SLU Strategies Course. (Students should be strongly encouraged to do so.)
