February 18, 2010 — The School of Arts and Sciences will present its final event for Black History Month at 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, when British actor Cedric Liqueur performs his original one-man play,
Buffalo Soldier: Sergeant George Jordan, 1847-1904, Medal of Honor, in the
browsing area of the Daniel A. Cannon Memorial Library.
The term “buffalo soldier” refers to African-Americans who served in cavalry regiments of the U.S. Army following the Civil War. These soldiers included both Civil War veterans and former slaves recruited into military service.
Liqueur performed this work on campus in March 2009 and was met with enthusiastic
approval from the audience. The performance incorporates slave songs, narratives, and writings from more contemporary authors.
The public is invited to this event. Admission and parking are free. The Cannon
Memorial Library overlooks Lake Jovita.
