January 14, 2011The University Campus community will celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on January 17, with a morning gathering featuring respected motivational speaker Joe Rogers. Rogers is an attorney and former lieutenant governor of Colorado. He was also a principal speaker at the 2009 Republican Convention.

He has been asked to present at Saint Leo University his Dream Alive program, which draws upon the vision of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rogers has made similar presentations to many college audiences across the country in honor of America's slain civil rights leader. Rogers is scheduled to speak at 9:30 a.m., Monday, the 17th in the Student Community Center. The public is invited to attend.

In the afternoon, students, faculty, and staff at University Campus are encouraged to choose a community service project opportunity at one of several area nonprofits. The organizations, which range from home-building projects to thrift stores, invite Saint Leo groups in for the afternoon to assist with specific chores or maintenance operations. The normal class schedule is suspended because of the commemoration.
