New Student Information

Students who have not accessed their courses by the end of drop/add will be automatically dropped from those courses.

1. For First Time Distance Learning (undergraduate) Students, beginning the evening of the third business day after the day you register, you will have access to a New Student Orientation Course. Completion of the new student orientation course is mandatory for all first time DL students.

  • Go to http://saintleo.blackboard.com (IP address 209.133.92.168) and click on the words "Log in to" in the upper left portion of the screen.
  • Please see items 2 and 3 below for instructions on determining your WebCT ID and your WebCT password.
  • Once you know your WebCT ID and password, if you have trouble accessing your orientation course please email Susan Boyd (dl@saintleo.edu) for assistance.

2. Your WebCT ID will be the same as your Saint Leo University email username. If you do not know your SLU email username, you can find it by completing the following steps:

  • Go to http://my.saintleo.edu
  • Clicking on the link entitled “Forgot your Password or Username? Click here!'
  • Follow the instructions on the screen and the username provided will also be your WebCT ID.
  • DL can not provide your WebCT ID for you.

3. Use your 7-digit student ID as your WebCT ID password. Please ask your center/advisor for your 7-digit student ID number if you don’t already know it. (This is not your social security number and DL can not provide it to you.)

4. Use MBS Direct's Distance Learning textbook site for textbook information and online ordering. (Go to http://saintleo.blackboard.com and click on the "Distance Learning Program textbook information and online ordering" link). Textbooks for the current term are posted as soon as they are available. (Please order your textbooks as soon as you are officially registered so you will have them in ample time to begin the course.) You should also verify the title, edition, ISBN, and author on the syllabus as soon as you gain access to your course.

5. On the first day of class, go to http://saintleo.blackboard.com and click on the words "Log in to" in the upper left portion of the screen. Use your WebCT ID (as described in item #2 above) and use your 7 digit student ID provided by your center as your WebCT password. Again, if you do not know your student ID #, please contact your center/advisor to request it. DL can not provide that information.

Please read the note at the bottom of this page before requesting log-in assistance from DL. (Warning: the Financial Aid office will revoke your award if you have not accessed each of your courses by the time the drop/add period ends.)

6. If you register after the term starts, please allow up to three business days to have access to your course(s) before contacting anyone for assistance. We will set up your access sooner whenever possible.

7. Once you are familiar with the web site, we strongly encourage you to change your password (for security reasons).

8. Please feel free to contact John Cain (john.cain@saintleo.edu), Director of the Distant Learning Program, with your concerns. Feedback is always welcome. However, please remember that Susan Boyd (dl@saintleo.edu) is your primary contact for WebCT related (non-academic) student issues such as login problems. Email is always the preferred method of contact.

Please include:

  • Your full name
  • 7 digit student ID #
  • WebCT ID
  • Course sections you are registered for
  • Description of the problem
  • And/or any error message you received.

For technical assistance, please contact the SLU WebCT help desk
toll-free at 1-866-404-1595
or online at http://d2.parature.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=8038.

9. If you need to drop or withdraw from a course, you must contact your center to complete the paperwork.

10. Individuals without access to the orientation course via their WebCT ID (non first-time DL students) who would like to access the course may do so by logging in with the WebCT ID newstudent and the password 77777. (First-time DL students must use their WebCT ID.)

*Note: First Time Distance Learning students are required to complete their Student Orientation Course before the first day of class or, at the latest, by the end of the first week of class. Access to your regular course(s) will usually be available the Friday evening before the first day of class at: http://saintleo.blackboard.com.

If you are unable to log on after the term begins and after the three business day waiting period; please send an e-mail to dl@saintleo.edu. (see #8 above for specifics) You must have your SLU email username and your 7 digit student ID in order to log in (DL can not provide that information). Please make sure you have that information before requesting assistance.

Prior Term Links ~

If you would like prior term course links to be removed from your myWebCT home page, send an email to patricia.elder02@saintleo.edu with "Remove Course Links" as the subject. Include:

  • Your full name
  • 7 digit student ID (not your social security number)
  • A list of the specific course links you want removed.
  • Links will be removed as time permits.

If there is any chance you may appeal a grade, please do not ask us to remove the link for that course. Once a link is removed it will not be restored. If you drop or withdraw from a course, your instructor will remove the link after your center has officially removed you from the course. (Pat only removes links to courses from prior terms). Remember: You must contact your center to officially drop or withdraw (or you can drop - but not withdraw - via eLion).
