Dr. Steven Carney is an Assistant Professor of Sport Business and a member of the Saint Leo community since 2012. He earned degrees in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina (B.S.), Sport Management from Brooklyn College (M.S.) and Athletic Administration from Florida State University (Ph.D.). Dr. Carney has over 15 years of experience teaching Sport Management at universities such as Drexel University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and James Madison University, where he was the Program Coordinator and the Faculty Advisor to Phi Epsilon Kappa, the student organization for sport management, recreation and kinesiology.

Along with his teaching experience, Dr. Carney has extensive experience in administration, as well as sport and special event management for many public, private and service organizations. His professional and research interests include service-learning and experiential education, event management, economic impact, and fan and participant surveys. Dr. Carney has written articles for publication in industry and academic publications, and has presented papers at many regional, national and international conferences.
