Susan Brown Foster, Ph.D. has been involved in the sport business industry most of her professional life after having been a softball and basketball athlete at Florida State University and a high school volleyball and softball coach. Dr. Foster’s main research interests involve legal issues of sport especially involving internships. She co-authored the book Experiential Learning in Sport Management: Internships and Beyond where she interviewed over 30 industry professionals in order to display their career paths in sport business. She has also published ten book chapters, numerous journal articles, and has delivered over 80 presentations and workshops at regional, national, and international events. She has worked in sporting goods sales, Paralympic sports, tournament organization and management, facility management, and has served as a local and international sports official in addition to her teaching career.

Teaching & Professional Interests:

Her main teaching interests include legal issues in sport, risk management, strategic planning, and pre-internship student development. She has supervised part-time and full-time field experiences for over 25 years. Her legal research focuses on the Fair Labor Standards Act and its application to internships, as well as curriculum, experiential learning, and risk management. One of her published articles on legal issues involving interns was reprinted in the book Student Risk Management published by the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
