Dr. Maxwell served as an Assistant Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Carolina State University. While in this position, she taught graduate and undergraduate students; guided graduate students on their theses and problem in lieu of theses; and served as program coordinator and advisor of the Individual and Family Development graduate program. The courses she taught included but not limited to the following: Adult Development, African American Families, Human Sexuality, Marriage and Family Relations, Advanced Childhood Development, and Family Theory and Research. She has also worked with several community agencies providing case management. Dr. Maxwell was a Relationship Counselor with DISC Village, Inc. She conducted assessments and implemented theory based strategies to strengthen couple and family relations.

Teaching & Professional Interests:
She is interested in teaching more family related courses such as Marriage and Family Relations and African American Families. Her professional interests include conducting research in the area of self-awareness, forgiveness and healing from interpersonal relationship challenges, managing stress in families, and strengthening couple and family relations.
