Biography:
A native of Akron, Ohio, Carol McLeish moved to Orlando, Florida, in 1983 to work as a costume patternmaker for the Walt Disney World Company. Relocating to Tampa in 1986, she worked as an assistant designer and computer patternmaker for several sportswear companies in the area, while teaching design, patterndrafting, and clothing construction at the International Academy of Design and Technology. She returned to school in 1995 for an M.A. in Elementary Education, and worked as a sixth grade teacher of language arts, reading, and social studies in several schools in Hillsborough County until 2004. Carol joined Saint Leo University as an adjunct instructor for elementary education in August of 2004, and became Internship Administrator for the undergraduate Education Department in 2005, a position she has held since. Carol teaches Language Arts for the Elementary Classroom, Social Studies for the Elementary Classroom, Education Governance, Senior Seminar, and the Level 1 Internship Seminars for Elementary Education and for Middle Grades Education. Carol completed her doctorate in reading education in 2016 through Nova Southeastern University. Dr. McLeish’s research interests include the impact of literacy coaching on reading achievement, re-imagining literature circles with the integration of technology, makerspaces for social studies, pre-service teacher development, and effective intern supervision practices.
