Biography:
I began my career 18 years ago providing in home therapy to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. After obtaining my MSW I moved into a Behavior Specialist position and began treating children with a variety of developmental disorders. I have worked as a Medical Social Worker at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Emergency and Intensive Care departments with families experiencing traumatic medical events. I spent my time at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA in two different areas: first working with families dealing with treatment resistant depression and then on a specialized inpatient unit for children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional problems.

Community Affiliation:

  •  United Way of Hernando County Board Member
  •  Early Learning Coalition Board Member

Teaching & Professional Interests:
I value the richness of diversity, education, and the growth that develops from experiencing both. Contrary to the American cultural belief of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” I am the direct result of individuals of various ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds investing into my development and future. I have and continue to seek to do the same for others.

My professional interests include the impact a diverse curriculum has on student engagement and retention, how social work education can help develop authentic allies in social justice, and the effects of unintentional bias on student performance.

Honors & Awards:

  • Wheeler Scholar Award recipient, 2001
