Biography:
Dr. Vendrell retired from the Miami-Dade Police Department, after serving 27 years in a sworn law enforcement capacity. Throughout his law enforcement career, he worked in a variety of patrol, investigative, administrative, and supervisory assignments. Dr. Vendrell has been teaching at the college level since 1995, primarily in the areas of emergency and disaster management, public administration, and criminal justice.  He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Police Studies with the United Kingdom for the 1999/2000 academic year, and was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Leicester, Scarman Centre for the Study of Public Order. His research was entitled “Preparing for the New Millennium: A Comparative Analysis of Emergency/Disaster Management Professional Development Strategies for the Police Service.” In addition, throughout the years, Dr. Vendrell has authored various articles and made contributions to books on the topics of law enforcement, security management, as well as emergency and disaster management. In particular, he is the co-author of Managing Critical Incidents and Large-Scale Event Security. This text was selected as the ASIS International 2017 Security Book of the Year. Dr. Vendrell currently serves as Review Editor for the Public Safety Chronicles, and previously served as Co-Editor for the Society for Public Safety’s Journal and Magazine.  Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for the Security Journal as well as the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Teaching & Professional Interests:
As a member of various professional organizations, Dr. Vendrell makes presentations and moderates educational sessions at various conferences each year. In particular, he has a keen interest in reality-based learning strategies, and seeks opportunities to incorporate these activities into the classroom environment.
