Requesting an Interview by the Committee Prior to Application for Admissions to a Graduate Program

It is important that students keep abreast of the steps that must be taken to ensure preparedness to be interviewed by the Committee. Students should refer to the Flow Chart and Check List to help better understand this process.

The following are required steps that must be completed to be granted an interview by the Committee:

  1. Applicants must be a Saint Leo University student or Alumnus (of no more than 5 years) in academic good standing.
  2. Applicants must provide the Committee with a completed and up-to-date Personal History and Academic Summary Form. This form must be typed, a photo included, and electronically submitted to the Advisor for each respective committee.
  3. Applicants must have taken the Standardized Entrance Exam for their respective program. A copy of the scores must be provided to the Committee.
    • A median score or above on the GRE; minimum MCAT score of 23, with no part less than 6; minimum score of 15 (combined) on the DAT; and median scores or better on all other exams must be obtained.
  4. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or better, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the required basic science courses. You must calculate this using all courses ever taken (overall) and the list of all basic science courses ever taken. A number of calculators are available online.
    • Complete current, official Saint Leo University transcripts as well as official transcripts from any other university or college attended must be provided with your request for an interview.
  5. Applicants must have at least five Saint Leo University individual faculty member evaluation forms completed. Transfer students who began at Saint Leo University with junior status or later must have a minimum of three individual Saint Leo University faculty member evaluation forms completed. The Committees recommends that students ensure that they performed well in the course instructed by the faculty member, that the evaluators know them well and can provide a great evaluation. Complete the Faculty Evaluation Request Formto initiate the evaluation process. Evaluations must be completed by the following:
    • At least two science faculty evaluations.
    • At least one evaluation from a faculty member who is not a science or mathematics faculty member.
    • At least one evaluation from a faculty member from the student’s major (if the major is not science).
    The Committee strongly recommends that applicants waive their rights to see the faculty evaluations by signing the waiver form prior to submitting the request for evaluations. Interviews will not be scheduled unitl all of the required evaluation forms are on file with the Committee.
  6. Applications must have a minimum of two and maximumof five letters of reference on official letterhead. These letters may be from the same faculty members as in #5 above, or from a supervisor where the applicant has worked or volunteered.
    • It is recommended that applicants have at least two faculty letters plus a research or healthcare professional write a letter of reference.
    • Letters of reference should be on official letterhead and sent directly to the Advisor of the Committee in sealed envelopes.
    • Please send these letters to the Committee in addition to the program of admissions.
    • At least one evaluation from a faculty member from the student’s major (if the major is not science).
  7. Applicants must provide the Committee with a copy of the official program application.
  8. The Committee strongly recommends that each applicant demonstrates evidence of volunteer work, research experience, shadowing, and diverse extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, hobbies, etc.) throughout the undergraduate experience.
