Conference Overview

As awareness grows of the far reaching impact of trauma in people’s lives, social workers, human service and mental health professionals as well as the courts, the medical profession, schools, and elected officials are responding with more innovative treatments that promote healing for individuals, families, and for communities and larger systems. 

This call for abstracts is for practitioners and educators from social work, human service and mental health professionals, the courts, healthcare, education and criminal justice systems whose professions touch the lives of individuals, families and communities.  Presenters should offer evidence-based practices and strategies that promote the conference topic:  Beyond ACES:  Transformative Interventions and Systems in Trauma.  Topics may include individual, family, community and systems involved in providing interventions and best practices in the delivery of trauma services.  

You are invited to submit an abstract for a paper or panel presentation to include the following: 

TITLE:  Should reflect the theme of your presentation

  • ABSTRACT  – In 250 words or more, provide a description of your presentation reflecting the conference theme, and select one of the methods below. 
  • METHODS  – Select among the following:
    • PAPER/ORAL PRESENTATION - This is a 50-60 minute presentation followed by Q&A with the audience. You can submit as a panel or individual presenter. 
    • PANELTwo to three presenters-20 -25 minutes each. If you propose to present as a panel, information for each presenter  must accompany abstract
  • COMMUNITY SHOWCASE:
    • Social Work agencies/organizations  providing services are welcomed to showcase their organization, including brochures describing services, job postings, recruiting volunteers, etc.
    • Graduate and Undergraduate – Student posters particularly in research. Instructors may work with their students on novel ways to showcase their work to conference participants, which include students, faculty, university administrators and community leaders and organizations.
  • KEYWORDS  - Provide three key words that characterize your topic or approach – if we receive many proposals we may match you with a similar one as a panel, using these keywords
  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES  – List 4 -5 learning objectives for your presentation, i.e. At the end of this presentation, participants will….

In order to provide continuing education credits, we must ask you to submit a copy of the Curriculum Vitae or Resume for each presenter listed on an abstract. Presentation must be 50-60 minutes for 1 CE and must have application to social work practice.

Up to 5 CE credits provided by Saint Leo University CE Provider # 50-15478 for the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling.
