As one of the top criminal justice universities in the U.S.,
Saint Leo is proud to offer many paths to a career in law
enforcement. Our undergraduate program, available through
traditional classes or online, includes a general track as well as
specializations in criminalistics and homeland security. We also
offer traditional, accelerated and online graduate programs in
FBI National Academy Associates
In 2009, Saint Leo was approved as an educational partner by the
FBI National Academy Associates (FBI NAA). FBI NAA is a nonprofit,
international organization, established in 1935, of nearly 18,000
members who are high-ranking law enforcement officers from national
and international agencies.
FBI NAA sought recognized institutions that would be able to
offer its members high-quality undergraduate and graduate courses
and degree programs. The organization elected to promote to its
members Saint Leo's practitioner-based programs in criminal
justice, which are designed to meet the current and future
educational needs of police leaders.
Our criminal justice professors bring decades of law enforcement
experience to the classroom. Led by distinguished department chair
Dr. Rande Matteson, our faculty hold the highest levels of
postgraduate degrees and have served their country in local, state
and federal agencies.
At Saint Leo, you have the unique opportunity to learn law
enforcement directly from retired FBI agents, expert witnesses in
high-profile investigations, a certified hostage negotiator, a top
crime scene technician, a former pilot and an active member of the
National Field Placements
Field placements are available to all criminal justice students
without prior criminal justice-related professional experience.
Placements and possible future employment opportunities are offered
with agencies such as the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Customs, Drug
Enforcement Administration, U.S. District Court, and Florida
Department of Law Enforcement.
Our Military Heritage
One of the top military universities in the United States, Saint
Leo University has been educating criminal justice professionals
for more than three decades.
While many U.S. colleges and universities today recognize active
military, veterans, and their families as an important student
community, Saint Leo University stepped up to serve college courses
and degree programs to the military in 1973. In the decades since,
Saint Leo University has come to be known as one of America's
largest and most committed providers of higher education to the
U.S. military. Today, Saint Leo University is ranked among the
nation's most military-friendly institutions by G.I. Jobs and
Military Advanced Education magazines.
