Do you enjoy learning about chemistry and biology? Put your knowledge to practical use in one of the fastest growing fields today. A Medical Technology degree gives you the skills to perform an array of laboratory tests to help doctors diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses.
Take classes in life and physical sciences during your first three years at Saint Leo University, and spend your senior year gaining clinical experience—for credit—at an affiliated hospital. Clinical rotations help you develop technical skills in major pathology areas, including microbiology and parasitology, urinalysis and body fluids, hematology, immunology and clinical chemistry. You’ll learn how to use sophisticated lab equipment, collect and process specimens, and ensure precision and accuracy in the laboratory.
Saint Leo students act with integrity in the laboratory, and serve patients with respect and compassion.
During your senior year, complete a one-year, for-credit internship at an affiliated hospital program. Saint Leo University is currently affiliated with Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. There, you’ll study under the guidance of Larry J. Davis, M.D., Medical Director; Maria Duynslager, Laboratory Director; and Dawn Tripolino, Medical Technology School Program Director.
Graduates work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, blood banks, public health agencies and research facilities.
