This course explores six decades and three eras of American
television as it pertains to the depiction of the American family.
Beginning with the early years, which saw the family as a haven,
students will learn how television influenced families and how
families as a whole influenced television. The course then moves on
to the conflict years of television families and then to the
postmodern period, in which the concept of family has become
fragmented and subject to debate and redefinition.
