Spring 2016 Athletics Update

There has never been a more exciting time to be a Lion!

Through the fall and winter seasons, Saint Leo athletics has enjoyed unparalleled success in competition and in the classroom, and excitement is building heading into the winter championships and spring seasons!

Saint Leo men’s cross country won the school’s first NCAA regional championship this fall, while sophomore women’s cross country runner Colett Rampf earned All-American honors – the first for a Saint Leo cross country runner! Men’s soccer won its second Sunshine State Conference regular season title in the past three seasons, and several Saint Leo men’s and women’s swimmers have already qualified for the NCAA Championships this March. Head men’s basketball coach Vince Alexander recently won his 300th career victory, while improvements to the Marion Bowman Activities Center – home of Saint Leo basketball and volleyball teams –  coupled with a raucous student section have made it one of the toughest venues in all of Division II.

Men's CC Regional Title

The spring seasons have opened with softball picked to win the Sunshine State Conference, America’s toughest Division II conference, while both men’s and women’s tennis were ranked no. 1 in the South Region in the preseason polls. Men’s and women’s golf will each challenge for regional supremacy and a shot at the national title this spring. Baseball is primed for a return to the NCAA tournament, and the Lions’ home field of Southard Stadium has also received improvements this spring.

Most importantly, Saint Leo’s nearly 350 student-athletes are getting it done in the classroom as well, recording a 3.25 GPA in the Fall 2015 semester.
