Each May, Saint Leo University sponsors a study-tour of Europe.  In 2002, tour participants met with former Secretary of State Colin Powell and His Holiness Pope John-Paul II.  The Saint Leo tour also met with Pope John Paul in 2003 and 2004.  The 2006, 2007 and 2008 tour groups met Pope Benedict XVI.

Join us this year and participate in an audience with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.


Travel Itinerary

May 3 Depart Tampa at Noon for Prague, Czech Republic
May 4-5 Tour Prague’s old city, cathedrals, castle and more
May 6-8

Transfer to Vienna, Austria by express train
Tour historic Vienna including the Imperial Palace, Hofburg,
Josefstadt and Spittelberg neighborhoods
Watch the famous Lipizzaner stallions perform at Vienna’s Spanish Riding Academy
Transfer to Venice by express night train

May 9-10 Tour Venice’s Grand Canal, Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Doge’s Palace,
Bridge of Sighs, Riva degli Schiavoni, Rialto Bridge,
Academia Museum, Murano and Torcello islands, and more
May 11 Roundtrip to Verona by express train
Tour Juliet’s House, Piazza delle Erbe and the Roman Amphitheater
May 12 Transfer to Rome by express train
Tour ancient and baroque Rome, the Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon, and Spanish Steps
May 13 Tour the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel and St.Angelo Castle
Audience with Pope Benedict XVI
May 14-15 Tour ancient and baroque Rome, Navona Square, Trevi Fountain,
Visit Tivoli’s Villa d’Este Gardens and Castel Gandolfo (Papal summer retreat)
May 16 Roundtrip to Florence by express train
Tour Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Museum, Duomo, Giotto Belltower, Baptisitry, and more
Farewell dinner at Meo Patacca in Trastevere, Rome
May 17 Return flight from Rome to Tampa


Costs
 and registration 

  • $4,000 ($3,600 for the tour, $400 air fare tax)

  • Students may register for 3 academic credits for an additional $687 (financial aid is available) at 50% regular course cost.   • $1,500 non-refundable deposit due anytime before 1 December 2008

  • Final payment due by 31 January 2009

  • Lunches: Sandwiches and soft drinks can be purchased for about $5 each day

  • Subway/bus cards in Prague, Vienna and Rome.

  • Ticket to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel - $15

  • Ticket to Uffizi Gallery in Florence - $15

  • Spending binges on Florentine leather, Roman shoes, Venetian glass and Viennese sweets!


Passports and visas

  • U.S. and European citizens need a valid passport for travel. A photocopy of passport must be supplied with deposit.

  • Non-U.S./non-European citizens need a passport and a European Union Schengen visa from the Czech Consulate in New York City. The application process takes a month, so apply early.
