Saint Leo University Welcomes New Community Partners

Saint Leo has announced professional working agreements with seven new community partners in Tampa Bay, and Central and South Florida. They are: Bay Area Youth Services, Inc., The Gracepoint Foundation, Hernando County Board of County Commissioners, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Miami-Dade County, Oglethorpe, Inc., and Southeastern Integrated Medical.

"We are delighted to launch these community partnerships between Saint Leo University and these organizations," said Dr. Edward Dadez, vice president of Division of Continuing Education, Saint Leo University. "It's essential to cultivate new relationships for the university, and it aids in building a stronger sense of community and independence for our students and graduates."

Bay Area Youth Services, Inc.

Bay Area Youth Services, Inc., known as BAYS Florida and based in Tampa, was organized and chartered as a Florida not-for-profit corporation on April 19, 1982. The agency, founded by William F. Bowman, was developed with the objective of improving the quality of life and increasing the potential of Florida's youth. Since then, BAYS has provided high quality and professional youth and family services throughout the state of Florida. Over the past 30 years, BAYS has grown into a multi-faceted organization with 14 office locations and more than 100 employees.

The Gracepoint Foundation

The Gracepoint Foundation was formally established in 2002 as the Mental Health Care Foundation, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. As the fundraising charity for Mental Health Care Inc., it changed the name to the Gracepoint Foundation when MHC became Gracepoint in 2013.

The foundation's mission remains constant – educate, advocate for, and give hope to all people touched by behavioral health and developmental challenges.

Located in Tampa, the foundation is governed by the board of trustees. The three providers are respected and accredited behavioral health and substance treatment centers. The foundation employs more than 1,100 team members and 29 psychiatrists.

Hernando County Board of County Commissioners

The Hernando County BOCC approves the county budget, adopts local ordinances and resolutions, and establishes policies which govern the county and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens. The commission administers county governmental services, such as building code enforcement, courts, prisons, property registration, public health oversight, and public works, such as road maintenance. More than 1,000 employees are currently employed within the various BOCC departments and offices.

Madison County Sheriff's Office

The Madison County Sheriff's Office provides communications services to all public safety agencies in the county through the Sheriff's Office Communications Center. The communications center is responsible for receiving all emergency 911 calls, administrative calls, emergency medical service, city fire department, volunteer fire department, and city police department calls, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office. The communications center disseminates call information to the appropriate agency through radio and telephone communications. The Sheriff's Department has an average of 80 employees.

Miami-Dade County

Miami-Dade County government serves a population of more than 2.5 million people with a work force of approximately 25,000 employees. The government provides major metropolitan services countywide and city-type services for residents of unincorporated areas. Miami-Dade County also provides employee discount services to all employees, which include travel, wellness, dining, shopping, fitness, money, and education.

Oglethorpe, Inc.

In 1999, founder Bob Cohen started a company which would fill the holes that healthcare disasters and distress left behind. Oglethorpe, Inc., was created, named after General James Edward Oglethorpe (1696-1785), who founded the colony of Georgia through extensive social reform. Similar to General Oglethorpe's mission to give people escaping debtors' prison a fresh start in the New World, the company’s mission is to breathe new life into failed or failing psychiatric health centers and to restore their place in their communities. Today, Oglethorpe, Inc., supports more than 1,200 employees, with offices and facilities in four states.

Oglethorpe, Inc., provides management solutions for health centers, wellness clinics, and hospitals. Its portfolio of clients spans across the country, with facilities whose specializations include psychiatric services, substance dependence, eating disorder therapy, and behavioral health counselling.

Southeastern Integrated Medical

Southeastern Integrated Medical (SIMED) is a 70+ multi-specialty physician group serving the healthcare needs of patients throughout North Central Florida. SIMED combines primary care physicians, specialists, diagnostic and therapeutic services, plus 400 dedicated and skilled staff members, in an integrated team approach.
