Tampa Graduates Celebrate June Commencement

June 10, 2013

Approximately 230 graduates received degrees earlier this month at a commencement held in Tampa for adult learners from the Tampa Education Center and the longstanding teaching location at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

The ceremony acknowledged the university’s ongoing commemoration of its 40-year anniversary of providing educational services to members of the U.S. military, veterans, and their families.

Graduates were addressed by guest speaker retired U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral D. Brian Peterman (pictured, in suit at podium). He told stories from his own life that demonstrate how one can integrate unanticipated career turns and life events into a meaningful personal journey.

Additionally, each graduate was personally congratulated by U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Alex Espinosa. As professor of military science at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Lt. Col. Espinosa has command of the regional U.S. Army ROTC Suncoast Battalion, the unit to which Saint Leo Army ROTC students belong.

Thomas Lowande, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, delivered the class farewell.

A broad range of degrees were conferred. At the graduate level, the Master of Business Administration, Master of Education, and Master of Theology degrees were awarded.

At the undergraduate level, the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, and Associate of Arts degrees were awarded.

The commencement ceremony was held at A La Carte Event Pavilion.
