This course will cover several vital topics in the area of Criminal Justice Administration. Experts in their respective fields will provide invaluable information that every administrator should know. The topics presented are designed to enhance the administrative knowledge and skills of all in attendance.

Participants will be able to define the differences between management and leadership, based upon recent studies, literature, and the current practices of successful organizations. The primary role of the supervisor, manager, and leader will be presented in detail. The strongly interdependent relationship between quality supervision and liability management will be established.

The importance of training, policy and procedures in relationship to employee performance and evaluations will be identified. Participants will become well versed on the topic of emergency management and the psychological impact on first responders.

Upon successfully completing this course, the participant will have obtained a clear understanding of the challenges and solutions for several important issues in the field of Criminal Justice Administration.

Upon approval of your agency administrator, this course may be used to satisfy the training requirements as mandated by the Criminal Justice Standards Training Council in Florida. The course name and number of instructions hours must be entered on the CJSTC 74 form under Section 6. A copy of the certificate must be retained by the submitting agency as proof of attendance.

Who May Attend

Any person employed by a Criminal Justice Agency and any Saint Leo University student. Any other interested party may contact Professor Barry Glover for authorization to attend the course. Professor Glover may be reached by pager at 727-508-7171.

Course Credit or Certificate of Completion

Saint Leo University undergraduate students, upon successfully completing all required coursework, as assigned by Professor Barry Glover, will be awarded the applicable credit hours noted for each course they elect to take. Note: these credit hours may be used towards satisfying the course specialization requirements for Criminal Justice majors. Additionally, any credit hours earned may be used to satisfy elective credit hour requirements. Students may elect to take the full four weeks for twelve (12) credit hours, or may elect to take portions of the seminar for lesser hours.

Saint Leo University graduate students, upon successfully completing all required coursework, as assigned by either Dr. Rande Matteson (CRJ-500 Special Topics: Issues in Law Enforcement Leadership) or Dr. David Thomas (CRJ-500 Special Topics: Emergency Management: Psychological Aspects of Emergency Management) will be awarded the applicable credit hours for each course they elect to take. Students may also elect to attend for Certificate of Completion only.
