Core Values Essay Competition Winners Announced

In the spirit of Saint Leo University’s core values, the Office of Veteran Student Services, in collaboration with Academic Affairs and the Department of Language Studies and the Arts, sponsored a friendly competition among the active duty military and student-veteran population. The Core Values Composition Competition asked student-veterans to write a personal essay of an active duty experience that highlighted one, two, or all of the university’s core values of Excellence, Community, Respect, Personal Development, Responsible Stewardship, and Integrity.

Earning first place was Aaron Bowling, a Center for Online Learning student, who lives in Australia. His prize was $250 travel stipend to Walt Disney World; two nights’ stay at the Shades of Green Military Resort in Orlando; Saint Leo University Veteran Student Services laptop case, camouflage hydration system, and coffee mug; and a Saint Leo University dog tag.

Second place went to Charles Poole, a student at the Adult Education Center at University Campus. The third-place winner was Samantha Blumenberg of the Trenton Education Office in Trenton, FL. The second- and third-place winners received Saint Leo University items.

The winning entries were read during Focus the Nation at University Campus on January 16.
