Doing Business in Panama
April 16, 2015
18 Saint Leo MBA students participated in the “Doing Business in Panama” trip led by Assistant Dean of the School of Business Dr. Lorrie McGovern, from January 31st to February 6th, 2015. This was the third time that Dr. McGovern has led a trip to Panama for Saint Leo. It was an action-packed itinerary that expanded students’ knowledge of the Latin American business climate. Site visits included the Panama Canal, Dell Panama, the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama, and Saint Leo’s partner institution, the Universidad Catolica Santa Maria La Antigua (USMA).
The Panama Canal not only offered a first-hand look at Panama’s critical source of revenue, but the tour of the operations also offered an understanding of the global importance of the site. Students and faculty’s visit to Dell Panama also offered insights into the technology sector in Panama. The hospitality offered by USMA to our students deepened our relationship with this important Catholic institution of higher education, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. All in all, the trip more than accomplished its goal of teaching students about Panama’s culture, its business climate, and its role in international business, and offering the Saint Leo community to connect in a meaningful way with this country.
