Historical Note About Marmion and Snyder
The Benedictine Sisters of Florida, having recently closed the 75-year old Holy Name Academy, turned their attention to providing education and support for Saint Leo’s college-level students. In 1965, they broke ground for the first women’s dormitory and cafeteria, Marmion Hall, named for Benedictine Abbot Columba Marmion of Belgium, whose writings were greatly revered by the Holy Name community. This was followed by the Villa dormitory in 1966 and Snyder Hall, named for a beloved house mother, Marion Q. Snyder, in 1967.
