Homecoming 2011 Wrap Up
April 06, 2011
Homecoming 2011 was celebrated at University Campus during the
first weekend of April. Beautiful Florida weather greeted
guests as they returned to campus to reconnect, socialize and share
their memories of Saint Leo, while seeing all of the improvements
to their alma mater in its current form.
The weekend opened with the 2011 Athletic Hall of
Fame Induction Ceremony, as four new members joined the elite group
of individuals who have excelled in Saint Leo athletics in the Prep
School, Junior College or Senior College. Among the inductees
were the first-ever members of the Hall of Fame from Holy Name
Academy (Betty Schwartzwalder Herrmann ‘43 & Gloria Garcia
Fouts ‘44), softball standout Denyve Duncan ‘05/’07 and University
President Dr. Arthur F. Kirk, Jr.
Friday featured the Chad Michael ’01 Memorial Golf Tournament at
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, as golfers helped raise money
for the Chad Michael Memorial Endowed Scholarship by participating
in the event. Tournament participants then returned to campus
where a silent auction was held in conjunction with the Rock of
Ages Lakeside Dinner during the evening, raising further funds for
the scholarship fund. Earlier in the afternoon, recipients of
scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year had an opportunity to
thank donors at the annual Scholarship Luncheon.
Saturday featured the Saint Leo Tennis Reunion at the SLU Tennis
Complex. Alumni from the tennis program gathered to watch
current players show off their skills, while visiting with former
head coach Tim Crosby ’67. Coach Crosby was presented with a
plaque by current Saint Leo head men’s and women’s tennis coach
James Bryce in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the
program.
At Saturday night’s Alumni Award Dinner, Mike Williams ’70 was
honored with the Military Service Award while Rodney Kinlaw ’09
received the Service to Community Award. Both expressed their
gratitude to their alma mater for setting them on the path to their
current successes. Many then went to San Ann Restaurant
(Ralph’s) for the After-Party, and enjoyed the sounds of Time Warp,
the Saint Leo faculty and staff band.
