Lions Cross Country Teams in DII National Championship
December 04, 2014
The Saint Leo men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed to the NCAA Division II Championship on Saturday, December 6, at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY, the site of the NCAA Division II Championship Fall Festival.
The Fall Festival is noteworthy in itself. The goal of the championship festival is to enhance the collegiate experience and create exposure for Division II sports. The festival is held every year, rotating the season of sports to include fall, winter, and spring. Opening and closing ceremonies, community engagement projects, and social opportunities for student-athletes are all hallmark events at the festivals.
Both Saint Leo teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championship meets after finishing second in the NCAA South Region Championships November 22 in Huntsville, AL. The Saint Leo men’s team will be making its second consecutive appearance in the Division II championship meet, while the Saint Leo women’s cross country team is headed to the championship for the first time.
Fans can follow Saturday’s NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships through the NCAA’s webcast at www.ncaa.com.
The men’s championship begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s championship at 12:15 p.m.
