Mayor Bob Buckhorn has declared Monday, April 13, as “Arthur F. Kirk, Jr. Day” in the City of Tampa. The announcement was made today during the mayor’s annual “Face the Chamber” luncheon held at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel. Dr. Kirk is retiring at the end of the 2014-15 academic year after 18 years as the president of Saint Leo University.

Dr. Kirk assumed the presidency of Saint Leo in 1997. During his tenure, he oversaw a transformation during which the culture of the institution evolved and Saint Leo College grew to become Saint Leo University. He was instrumental in developing Saint Leo’s student-centered mission and identifying the institution’s six core values.

During the luncheon, which was hosted by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Kirk was presented with a proclamation that listed the many highlights of his career in higher education and concluded with Mayor Buckhorn urging “all citizens to join me in congratulating Dr. Kirk on his retirement, thanking him for the many contributions he has made to our community and, wishing him God’s blessings and continued success.”
