New Academic Year Begins
August 22, 2014
The 2014-2015 academic year begins formally the week of August 25 for approximately 16,400 students at Saint Leo University.
Freshmen enrolling at the residential University Campus arrived Thursday to move in (pictured). They and their families were greeted at a formal matriculation ceremony in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. More than 800 students new to University Campus–including more than 650 freshmen and more than 150 transfer students–heard welcoming messages from top administrators, faculty, and fellow students (pictured). A Saint Leo education provides a special opportunity to develop in body, mind, and soul, Dr. Thomas Humphries, assistant professor of theology, told the assembled audience.
The new students at University Campus represent a diverse group, with representatives from 36 nations. American students hail from 34 states.
Also new at University Campus, construction work is now proceeding for a new academic building that will replace the now-demolished Crawford Hall.
Additionally, a cybersecurity laboratory is now open on the the fourth floor of the School of Business building, which had been left unfinished when building construction was completed in 2011. The lab was installed over the summer to support instruction for the new master of science degree in cybersecurity, which also begins during the fall term.
