Saint Leo, Home of the Lions, Welcomes Robots
January 06, 2015
Saint Leo University welcomes the public to come and cheer at robotics competitions being held at University Campus among teams comprised of area high school students.
University Campus is hosting the FIRST® Tech Challenge Robot League Championship for high school students from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday, January 10, in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Sixteen teams of contestants from central Florida communities, including Tampa and Lakeland, are expected with robots they have already constructed from scratch. The photos shown here are from similar competitions in other places during the past year.
The university, in a spirit of community, is hosting both the regional league competition in January and a state championship to follow on Saturday, February 14.
The events are organized according to the rules of the not-for-profit organization, FIRST®¬–For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Teams are encouraged to practice “gracious professionalism” as they work together to try and create winning robots. More information about the organization and its leagues is available at www.usfirst.org.
Admission is free and ample parking is available, including in the campus garage. University Campus is located at 33701 State Road 52, four miles east of Interstate 75 (Exit 285) in the east Pasco County town of Saint Leo.
