Saint Leo University Celebrates Veterans Day with Annual Campus Ceremony

Saint Leo University will celebrate Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11, with a morning ceremony on University Campus in Saint Leo. The event will be held in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms in the Student Community Center. The campus is at 33701 State Road 52, four miles east of Interstate 75 (Exit 285) in the town of Saint Leo. Parking is readily available in the campus garage.

The program will honor the brave men and women who have served our country as members of the military. It is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker is K. Steven Collier, U.S. Army (Ret.) (pictured). Colonel Collier is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy where he was commissioned as a regular army armor officer. His first assignment was as tank platoon leader in Charlie Company 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division (“Hell on Wheels” or “Patton’s Own”) at Ft. Hood, TX.

Among his many military accomplishments, Colonel Collier commanded the 2nd Battalion 77th Armored Regiment (Iron Tigers), 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, CO. He also served in the Pentagon as the project lead for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff No-Notice Interoperability Exercise Program with responsibly for evaluating national plans, policies, and procedures for dealing with terrorist attacks utilizing weapons of mass destruction and cyber warfare. Upon retirement, Colonel Collier returned to Dade City and founded a company, Technology – Management & Innovative Solutions. He has amassed 35 years of increasing managerial responsibilities in the U.S. Army, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the corporate world.

In the afternoon, from 1 until 5 p.m., Saint Leo students and employees will volunteer in the community, as part of its semi-annual Community Service Day. This year, students, faculty, and staff will volunteer as a large group at Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa. Community Service Day demonstrates Saint Leo University’s values in action.
