Saint Leo University Partners with the Greater Tampa Chamber on Education Connection
August 28, 2014
Education Connection, a partnership between the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Tampa Bay area educational institutions, was established to increase collaboration between academia and the business community. This collaboration will create new opportunities for internships within the Tampa Bay community, establish a channel for locally applicable research partnerships, and provide a conduit for feedback on education curriculum.
Saint Leo University is one of five area colleges and universities, along with the Hillsborough County Public Schools, to partner with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce on this program. The partnership was created to develop workforce talent, encourage industry-leading research, and inspire meaningful relationships to create one of the most respected communities in the world.
Tampa Bay is filled with renowned experts performing innovative research and providing their intellectual expertise to teach young minds. Currently, five Saint Leo University faculty members regularly consult with area businesses to create meaningful results. They include:
- John Lax, instructor of marketing
- Dr. Derek Mohammed, chair of computer science and information systems
- Dr. Vyas Krishnan, associate professor of computer science
- Dr. Jalika Waugh, assistant professor of criminalistics
- Dr. Passard Dean, associate professor of accounting
“This program represents a multiple win scenario for four parties,” said Rob Liddell, director of career planning at Saint Leo University. “Employers identify intellectual talent to help their operations grow, faculty members are recognized for their expertise and provide ‘real-world’ student experiences, current students are offered more opportunities to complete project-specific internships, and recent graduates are given the chance to stay in the Tampa Bay region contributing to a growing and vibrant economy,” said Liddell.
