Saint Leo University to Host Annual Beginning Teacher Boot Camp
July 08, 2015
Saint Leo University invites first-time K-12 teachers joining the Pasco County School District to a free Beginning Teacher Boot Camp from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, July 31, in the Student Community Center at University Campus. The program is now in its fourth year.
New teachers are welcome, whether they graduated from Saint Leo or another institution. This camp is offered as a public service by the School of Education and Social Services at Saint Leo.
Beverly Ledbetter, who joined the university after a long, successful career with the Pasco County School District, and who designed and organized the camp, will again lead the morning training session. She now serves as an adjunct instructor and director of teacher boot camps at Saint Leo University.
Some of the practical tips and training to be offered will include:
- Classroom management strategies for the start of the year;
- Contract rights and responsibilities;
- Workplace acronyms new teachers don’t yet know; and
- What new teachers can do to find out how school support personnel and fellow teachers work together on practical matters (who does what in your school and how to reach them when you need assistance).
To attend, simply email Beverly.firstname.lastname@example.org with the phraseBeginning Teacher Boot Camp 2015 in the subject line.
University Campus is located at 33701 State Road 52, in the east Pasco County town of Saint Leo, just four miles east of Interstate 75 (Exit 285). Parking is available in surface lots and in the campus garage.
