University Campus Welcomes Families To Annual Fall Festival
October 17, 2012
From elephant rides and a Ferris wheel, to Polynesian fire dancers and fireworks, this year’s 2012 Fall Family Festival, hosted by the Campus Activities Board and Student Services will be a multicultural celebration taking place Friday, Oct. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 21.
The Fall Family Festival is a Saint Leo tradition specifically designed for the parents/guardians, siblings, and family members of Saint Leo students. The festival provides an opportunity for family members to spend time on campus with their student in a fun and relaxed setting and enjoy fellowship with other university families, while learning more about the university.
This year’s multicultural theme showcases the diversity of cultures Saint Leo students bring to campus. The festival features a “World’s Fair” on Saturday that will include carnival-type rides and games, activities, and exhibits. Multicultural performances such as traditional Chinese lion dancing, Irish step dancing, and African drumming and dancing will take place throughout the afternoon.
The weekend begins with the annual Lions FORE Golf Outing at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Friday afternoon. Other first-day highlights include the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Turf Stadium and Parking Garage, and a live performance in the evening by hypnotist Dr. Jim Wand.
In addition to the World’s Fair, Saturday’s events include a Technology Showcase highlighting a variety of learning technologies and resources used on campus and a student art exhibit. Both Saint Leo’s men’s and women’s soccer teams will compete against Lynn University teams on Saturday night. The evening will conclude with live music performed by a steel drum band, Polynesian fire dancers, and a fireworks display grand finale at 9:30 by Pyrotecnico.
The weekend concludes with Mass and brunch on Sunday morning.
The Trane Stop, Office of Student Financial Services and Book Store will have extended hours on Saturday for families with questions or business they would like to attend to while on campus.
Registered Fall Family Festival guests have access to all events, meals and receptions. Registration for the Lions FORE Lions Golf Outing is optional.
