University Sponsors 'Relay for Life' Cancer Fight

March 30, 2005

Saint Leo University is sponsoring East Pasco County’s “Relay for Life,' benefitting the American Cancer Society, on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 on Saint Leo University Campus in front of the McDonald Center. “Relay for Life' provides an opportunity for the local community to form sponsored teams to walk around-the-clock, raising money for the many services that the American Cancer Society provides.

Last year East Pasco “Relay for Life' raised $14,000, and this year more than $16,000 has been raised to date, with more than 25 teams participating in the event. The areas of Pasco County participating in the East Pasco “Relay for Life' include Dade City and Zephyrhills. “Relay for Life' teams will walk from Friday night at 6 p.m. until noon on Saturday.

Registration is $100 per team, and teams can be made up of just a few people or a large group. If you are interested in forming your own team or want to join an existing team, please contact Jen Garcia at (352) 588-8266 or via e-mail at; or Saint Leo Student Coordinator Amanda Davis at (352) 588-8978 or via e-mail at

The event provides non-stop support and entertainment for the participants. Some of the planned activities include a banner contest, drama class, scavenger hunt and a crazy hat lap. Participants will also receive special T-shirts.
