Saint Leo Featured on Animal Planet Show "Tanked" on March 29

March 27, 2013

When Saint Leo University opened its newest residence hall – Apartment 5 – last August, more than students moved in.

Residents of a more “aquatic” nature live in the building’s 2,100 gallon saltwater aquarium, including multiple lionfish, in honor of the university’s lion mascot.

The huge, curved, multi-level aquarium located in the first-floor lounge was installed over the course of three days last summer by the two brothers-in-law who run the largest aquarium manufacturing company in the nation. Wayde King and Brett Raymer, who operate Acrylic Tank Manufacturing, are also the stars of the Animal Planet show, Tanked. The business partners travel the world designing and installing customized tanks that fit a wide variety of interesting locations – from restaurants and museums to mansions and now Saint Leo University.

It’s the company’s first on-air installation at a university. The episode, titled “Learn to Love or Love to Learn,” will be shown at 9 p.m. EST on Animal Planet. Check your local listings for information or visit the Tanked website.

Apartments 5 and 6 are Saint Leo University’s newest residence halls. Apartment 5 opened for the Fall 2012 semester and Apartment 6 is scheduled to open for the Fall 2013 semester. Both are four-story buildings that provide suite-style living for approximately 150 students per building.

In addition to the aquarium –located in a large community space on the ground floor – Apartment Building 5 features a gaming televisions/play area, a fitness center, arcade gaming area, and state-of-the-art nap pods. This campus community space is open to all Saint Leo community members.
