Vision, Mission, and Goals

Vision Statement
In support of the Vision of Saint Leo University, the Counseling Department exists to support the growth in mind, body, and spirit for all members of it’s community. Adhering to the values of excellence, community, respect, personal development, responsible stewardship, and integrity, the Department recognizes the dignity, value, and gifts of all people. Within this framework, the Counseling Department seeks to provide the highest level of appropriate mental health services to the Saint Leo University community.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Counseling Department is to develop a team of highly competent staff who are deeply committed to providing prevention, intervention, and modeling to encourage students to take responsibility for their mental, emotional, social, spiritual, physical, and occupational development to become contributing members in their community.

As a fully integrated part of Student Services and the University as a whole, the Counseling Department supports the following student learning outcomes…cognitive complexity, knowledge acquisition, integration, and application, humanitarianism, civic engagement, inter and intrapersonal competence, practical competence, and persistence and academic achievement. Specifically, these outcomes are supported through a range of mental health services including individual and group counseling, consultation with faculty and others, presentations to parents and students, involvement with community task forces and agencies, development of referral services in the community, and participation in outreach and prevention activities.
