How Aid is Disbursed

Student aid is awarded and disbursed aid by academic term, i.e., semester (or summer term). Aid is disbursed within ten days of the beginning of term, assuming all requirements are met.

Application review, verification (if selected), and awarding of aid must be completed before aid can be disbursed. All financial aid is disbursed directly to a student’s eLion account. The funds are used to pay tuition and required fees, along with room and board, if applicable. Any remaining credit balance is issued in one of three ways as selected by the student.

Each student will receive a Higher One Debit Card in the mail after registering for classes. The student will be given three options to receive refunds:

  1. Higher One Account - This option allows the student to set up a checking account with Higher One. The student will have access to a complete online banking experience and can access a Higher One ATM at the University Campus in the Campus Security and Safety Office.
  2. A bank ACH transfer - This option will allow students to have their funds direct deposited into the bank account of their choosing.
  3. Physical paper check - For students who would prefer to receive a paper check in the mail, they will be mailed a refund check from Higher One to their home address.

Any of these options can be accepted as soon as the student receives the Higher One Easy Refund Card.

The speed of these services is dependent on the information the University has on file. If you are not sure that Saint Leo University has your current mailing address, take a moment to visit my.saintleo.edu to update your address information today.
