Course Load Policy

A Saint Leo University Center for Online Learning (COL) student is considered full-time when attempting two courses per term. This is equivalent to a student attempting 12 credits in a traditional 16-week semester. Course load limits are established to help ensure the success of each COL student. We simply want to make sure each student is attempting the number of courses he/she is capable of completing successfully. A COL student will be permitted to take more than two courses if the following condition is met:

  • Student has successfully completed 12 or more credits with Saint Leo University’s Center for Online Learning and has a G.P.A. of 3.0 or above in those courses.

If the above condition is met a student will be permitted to register for 3 classes.

A student will only be permitted to register for 4 classes if the following condition is met:

  • Student has a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher at Saint Leo University and is in the final term of his/her degree program.

No student will ever be permitted to take 5 or more classes in a term.

* A student with a G.P.A. of 2.5 - 2.99 may petition to take 3 courses by submitting a one page, single-spaced essay explaining why he/she should receive a waiver of the above guidelines pertaining to 3 classes. The essay should include an action plan for the student to meet academic, work and family obligations.
