Feed the Pig! Adoption Fair

In early October, university campus students attended a Feed the Pig! Adoption Fair. The Annual Fund established the Feed the Pig program as a way of introducing the concept of philanthropy to SLU underclassmen. The Feed the Pig program seeks to create and nurture a giving relationship between current students and their alma mater that extends beyond graduation. Students are learning that the price of tuition does not cover the full cost of a college education. The difference is made up through the generous gifts of alumni and friends to Saint Leo’s Annual Fund.

At the beginning of the semester, resident assistants distributed small pink piggy-banks to their campus residents. Students are asked to use the piggy-banks to collect any loose change and to turn them in for new ones once they are filled.

The October adoption fair introduced the program to commuter students and gave on-campus students an opportunity to swap their filled pigs for new ones. Proceeds from the Feed the Pig program this semester will go towards the new Emergency Scholarship Fund. Created by Professor Stephen Baglione, the fund will help 100 current students who are facing financial hardship to re-enroll for the spring semester.
