What is Study Abroad?

As a result of our ever-increasing global society and economy, it is very important that college graduates have a relevant international experience that will enhance your academic and career opportunities. Learn about international perspectives of your academic major, learn how to interact successfully with colleagues from other cultural backgrounds, learn how to be an international innovator in your anticipated career.

Spend a summer, Fall semester or a full-year studying at a university in another country while completing academic requirements for your degree at Saint Leo University. Whether you want to increase your foreign language skills, take elective courses, or classes in your major, there are many opportunities to study in other countries while earning credit toward your degree at Saint Leo University. Students are NOT required to be fluent in a second language to Study Abroad, as there are abundant opportunities to take your classes taught in English all over the world.

Plan ahead and Study Abroad for a summer, Fall semester or full-year during your Junior year at Saint Leo University!

Saint Leo University requires students who wish to study abroad to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Junior Standing
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (some programs may require a higher GPA)
  • Major Department Approval
  • Academic Advisor Approval

Saint Leo University financial aid packages are available for Study Abroad programs.

Juniors and seniors will be allowed to study abroad during the fall semester. The only exceptions will be made for fall athletes. In addition, a limited number of semester slots are available for each academic year. A February 1 deadline will be strictly adhered to for the next academic year enrollment. Students should be sure to turn in their completed study abroad approval forms prior to the deadline to ensure ability to travel for the following semester. Reservations are taken in the order that completed forms are brought to the office. Approvals are made on a first-come-first-serve basis, thus completing your approval process early is strongly recommended. SLU students interested in this unique opportunity should contact the following individuals for additional information at least two semesters prior to the semester studying abroad.

For information on a particular program, please visit the individual web site. Students studying in any of these programs receive Saint Leo credit. Grades earned while abroad become part of the official transcript, factor into the cumulative GPA, and are designed to meet graduation requirements.
