Center Spotlight: Saint Leo’s Gwinnett, GA Education Center

Saint Leo University is proud to support three education centers in the Atlanta, Georgia area. These are just a few of the numerous centers we have around the country.

We recently caught up with Lan Pham, the associate director of our Gwinnett county, GA center, to learn more about what it offers and why it’s a great option for those seeking various degrees from a nationally-recognized institution.

Saint Leo's Gwinnett, GA Education Center on Google MapsQ: Where is the Gwinnett, GA Education Center located, and how large is it?

The entrance to Saint Leo's Gwinnett, GA Education CenterQ: When are classes offered at the Gwinnett Education Center?

A: We offer classes in a variety of formats to meet the adult learner students’ needs and schedules.

Primarily, classes meet in the evening between the hours of 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. As for daytime classes, they usually run between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. We offer classes on Saturdays that start at 8 a.m.

We’ve actually seen a lot of interest in our daytime courses, so we’re looking to build more of these into our schedule.

We also offer a number of courses online, which can be done at your convenience from nearly any location with Internet access.

Q: How many students attend the center, and what are the faculty like there?

A: For Fall II of 2017, we had 164 students. This is why we can offer small class sizes with 12-15 students in each class.

Our students receive one-on-one support from their professors. Our faculty are always more than willing to help students be successful.

Classes are also taught via video teaching technology (VTT). We have instructors at our other two centers in Morrow and Marietta who offer courses to students at our Gwinnett Education Center, and students are fully able to collaborate and interact with their instructors and participate in these courses using this live technology.

The student lounge inside Saint Leo's Gwinnett, GA Education CenterQ: What makes your center unique?

A: In addition to a supportive adult learning community and convenient location, we have a beautiful student lounge inside our center with comfortable tables and chairs that’s perfect for studying. Students can plug in their laptops and smartphones, much like they can do at Starbucks. It has a TV with the news on, a fridge, a bulletin board where we regularly post job opportunities, and even a popcorn machine, which comes in handy for exam time.

We hold informative and engaging seminars now and again on a variety of topics related to the programs we offer. For instance, we’re looking into doing seminars on criminal justice and healthcare. We’re looking to have some graduates of these programs come out and speak.

We participate in community outreach service activities, such as a drive we recently sponsored for victims of Hurricane Harvey. We collected coloring books and crayons for kids in Texas who were affected by the storm. This effort was spearheaded by students in the Human Services Club.

Saint Leo is designated as a military-friendly university by the Military Advanced Education and Transition guide. The Gwinnett Education Center is proud to provide active-duty service members, veterans, and their families high-quality education.

Overall, I have to say that we work together as a unit here in the Atlanta area. Our three centers support each other very well, and it makes all of our centers stronger.
