Having the opportunity to attend college courses in a small environment can be a tremendous benefit to students. A perfect example of this is the type of learning environment Saint Leo University students can be a part of at the university’s Tallahassee Education Center.
We recently caught up with Liz Heron, the director of this location, to find out about everything this Education Center offers and why it’s a great choice for many students looking to earn a higher education.
Q: Where exactly is Saint Leo University’s Tallahassee Education Center located?
A: We are housed on the Tallahassee Community College (TCC) campus.
Our physical street address is:
113 Progress Dr.
Tallahassee, FL 32304
We are in the University Center Annex right next door to the University Center Building.
I should mention that our mailing address is:
University Center Building
444 Appleyard Dr. Suite 136
Tallahassee, FL 32304
We first opened in Tallahassee in 2006 but have been in our current location since August of 2012.
Q: What is the setup of the Saint Leo University location in Tallahassee?
A: We have 1,100 square feet of office space for our administrative staff. This is where we handle all of our admissions and advising needs for students. Our classes are held in the classrooms on the TCC campus.
Q: Do Saint Leo students in Tallahassee have access to the entire TCC campus?
A: For the most part, they do. Any student who enrolls with us here in Tallahassee can obtain a student ID, allowing them to use the library, gym, learning commons, athletic facilities, and everything this location has to offer.
Q: Which academic programs are offered at the Tallahassee Education Center?
A: We offer the following programs in Tallahassee:
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Criminal Justice (Criminalistics)
Criminal Justice (Homeland Security)
We also participate in Saint Leo FLEX. This option allows students to enroll through the Tallahassee Education Center into one of Saint Leo’s many online degree programs, but it also gives them access to use our center for face-to-face meetings with advisors and in general makes students feel like they are connected to a real brick-and-mortar university.
Q: When are classes offered at this location?
A: Currently, all of our center-based classes are held in the evening on weekdays. Most of these classes start at 6 p.m., allowing for our students who work during the day to come to our location after work. We also have ICC courses offered remotely that normally start at 5:30 p.m. Plus, our online courses can be done on a student’s time.
Q: What are the students like at this location?
A: Our students are mostly a mix of working adults, veterans, and international students. Each student’s journey is unique and we are here to support every step.
Q: What are the faculty like?
A: Our faculty are great! They all work in their respective fields and bring a wealth of practical experience to the classroom.
Q: Who are the staff members?
A: In addition to my role as center director, our assistant director of admissions is Derilyn Sparrow, and our staff coordinator is Meshundria Turner.
Q: What else does the Tallahassee Education Center offer?
A: In terms of events, we host info sessions and open houses throughout the year. We also volunteer in the community initiatives throughout the year.
Q: Why should students attend Saint Leo University for their higher education?
A: First off, you will absolutely receive one-on-one attention from your instructors. Unlike larger schools where you can feel like a number, we know your name and who you are. Even our online classes are small.
It’s also important to note that we are a regionally accredited university, which means your credits absolutely do count toward an accredited and respected degree.
Q: How can prospective students learn more about the Tallahassee Education Center?
A: Feel free to call our center at 850-201-8655, e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by our office at TCC to learn more.
