Dr. was born in Punjab, India. He graduated from Punjab Agricultural University in 1974. Dr. Bal obtained his M.Sc. in Biochemical Engineering from University of Wales and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Aston University, England. He joined Saint Leo University in 1999 as Associate Professor in Computer Information Systems after teaching in higher education in England for 22 years. He has taught and developed a number of courses for online delivery at undergraduate and graduate levels including MBA and DBA courses such as decision support systems, databases, data communication & networking, business analytics, computer programming, web programming, and information security. Dr. Bal was actively involved in the development of curriculum for the Computer Science program and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity.
Dr. Bal has co-authored a textbook in CIS, contributed a chapter in another book, and has authored/co-authored a number of papers and has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences. Dr. Balbir's research interests include information systems, decision modeling, and sensor-based robot programming. Dr. Bal is full professor of Computer Science and has served as Dean (2015-2017), associate Dean (2009-2015), and chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems and Accounting from 2006-2009 in the Donald R. Tapia School of Business.
