The Honors Program seeks to admit students who demonstrate academic accomplishment and commitment to Saint Leo's core values of excellence, community, respect, personal development, responsible stewardship and integrity. Admission is selective, and neither acceptance by the University nor a grant of scholarship is a guarantee of admission to the Honors Program. There is no separate application to be considered for the Honors Program. All students who apply to Saint Leo University will be considered for the program.
How can I join Honors?
As an incoming freshman to Saint Leo University: The minimum requirements for admission to the Honors Program are a high school GPA of 3.5, and an SAT score of 1270 (on the 2016 SAT) or the ACT equivalent of 26. Students who have the equivalent GPA but do not meet the SAT or ACT requirement may petition to apply to the Honors Program by writing an essay and having a high school teacher write a letter of recommendation confirming their aptitude for independent and collaborative work at the college level. They may also be asked to take a separate examination administered by the Honors Director.
As an incoming transfer student to Saint Leo University: Students who transfer from another National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC)-recognized Honors program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 are automatically eligible for admission. Junior transfer students holding an AA or AS degree who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 may petition join the Honors Program for the final two years. The two-year Honors curriculum for qualified junior transfers consists of the following courses: HON 350, HON 351, HON 498 and HON 499.
As a non-honors student at Saint Leo University: Students who complete the first semester or freshman year at Saint Leo's campus with a minimum GPA of 3.5 may seek recommendation by a faculty member to join the Honors Program. They must also meet with the Honors Director and write a letter explaining why they should be admitted to the Honors Program. They must double up on Honors core courses during their sophomore year.
If you do not meet the qualifications above and would still like to be considered for the Honors Program, please complete this form.
To graduate from the Honors Program, a student must meet all University graduation requirements with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, must also achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 in Honors classes, and must complete a senior project with a grade of B- or better.
