A Message from President Senese: Earthquake in Haiti

Saint Leo University President Jeffrey Senese calls for prayers and solidarity with the people of Haiti, following the earthquake on August 14.

I wanted to take a moment to express my solidarity and offer prayers for the people of Haiti. This morning, the Caribbean country experienced a magnitude 7.2 earthquake—more powerful than the earthquake that struck just 11 years ago. Early reports say the earthquake caused catastrophic damage and many people are still trapped in the rubble.

Today I ask that you please join me in praying for the health and safety of everyone impacted by the earthquake and for the emergency responders and medical teams as they work to help people in the aftermath. Please also keep in mind our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, who are from Haiti or have family members living there today. They will be in need of comfort and support.

It was just a few years ago that our university community rallied together to help the people of Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, and so we will do so again following this earthquake.

May God continue to be with the people of Haiti during this devastating time.
